My Strategic plan

Why I’m Running for Mayor — Hamden Deserves a Vision for the Future!

After eight years on the Board of Education and Finance Committee, along with four years as Director of Government Legislative Affairs, I’ve come to a harsh realization: Despite the tireless efforts of our community, Hamden is trapped in a cycle of financial struggle that never seems to end. Every budget season feels like déjà vu. Passionate public servants, savvy financial experts, and committed community leaders pour their hearts into finding solutions, yet the same structural issues loom large year after year. We’re stuck without a stable mill rate, struggling to provide reliable services, and failing to create the thriving town that attracts new residents, businesses, and families eager to call Hamden home. The heart of the problem isn’t the lack of effort—it’s our failure to embrace a long-term strategy. For far too long, we’ve tried to tackle Hamden's budget as if it were a short-term puzzle, attempting to unravel decades of fiscal mismanagement in just one season. But let’s face it: the challenges we face today are rooted in choices made over generations. With rising expenses fueled by inflation, heavy debt burdens, and enduring contractual obligations, it's time for a bold new approach if we hope to shift Hamden's trajectory. That’s why I’m running for Mayor. It’s time for Hamden to adopt a comprehensive, multi-year strategic plan—one that considers the broader perspective. We need to ask ourselves: Where do we envision Hamden in 10 years?

With unwavering resolve, we must pursue that vision relentlessly—day by day, budget by budget, year by year. This plan must be comprehensive and daring, requiring tough choices and ambitious investments:

Right-size our government by critically reviewing staffing and services.

Grow our grand list - not by burdening residents with higher taxes, but by attracting new businesses, expanding housing options—ranging from affordable to market rate—and increasing density in strategic economic corridors like Dixwell Avenue, Whitney Avenue, and State Street.

Set clear benchmarks for education, housing, development, and financial health, allowing us to measure our progress transparently over time. This won't be easy and won't offer quick fixes or immediate relief. But let’s be real—it’s the only route to genuine, sustainable change. We can achieve this by rallying experts, engaging with our residents, fostering transparency, and committing to a long-term vision. It’s high time we stop trying to save Hamden with band-aid solutions and instead set our sights on building a stronger, stable future for all.

I’m running for Mayor to spearhead this transformation. To infuse fresh leadership and clear direction into our town. To stop managing in crisis and start planning with purpose. I’m here to blaze the path forward, and I want to walk it alongside you. Together, we can revive confidence in our future and create a Hamden where everyone wants to live, work, play, and invest. Let’s get to work!
